Lou Aitken is a surfboard shaper based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, with over 20 years of surfing experience and a decade spent crafting boards. She started surfing at age 10 at Sandy Bay — a place that still holds a special connection for her and helped shape her love for the ocean. What began as a passion for riding waves naturally evolved into shaping, with a focus on creating boards that match each surfer’s style, ability, and vision.

Her shaping is driven by a genuine passion for bringing other people’s ideas to life. Whether it’s a first board or a high-performance shape, Lou works closely with each surfer to design something that feels right under their feet. There’s nothing better to her than seeing someone out in the water, enjoying the ocean on a board built specifically for them.

Lou shapes out of Pacific Fibreglass in Auckland, building every board with a hands-on, detail-driven approach. She believes the right board should be tailored to the individual without ever compromising on strength, appearance, or performance. Each design is carefully considered to not only suit the surfer, but to elevate how they feel in the water - creating boards that look good, last, and most importantly, maximise performance and enjoyment every time you paddle out.
